The questionnaire included 8 items on background characteristics as well as items on the 4C’s, specifically 15 items on customer solutions, 2 items on customer costs, 3 items on convenience, and 8 items on communication. The results revealed the following: (1) 97.4% of primiparas and 93.0% of multiparas answered that “midwives available to consult on an ongoing basis from pregnancy to child-rearing are needed.” (2) Regarding the use of birth centers, the most common response overall was “have never looked at or used birth centers” (59.3%). (3) Overall, 86.9% of respondents wished to use a birth center to receive ongoing support in the community. The present results indicate that about 90% of both primiparous and multiparous mothers feel they need ongoing support from midwives, and that a similarly high proportion wishes to use birth centers as a place to receive ongoing support in the community.
