Results of a content analysis showed that the factors influencing midwives’ work continuation consist of external factors: hygiene factors, in-hospital midwifery services, midwife outpatient division, and mixed maternity wards; and internal factors: sense of belonging, age, experiences work life balance, and identity.\nDiscussion: Although hygiene factors do not directly influence job satisfaction, human relationships influence work continuation. While mid-career midwives are overburdened with work role overload, life-events, etc., midwives in general view giving birth and childcare as a career. Midwives are different from other nursing professionals in that they develop a sense of belonging to their institutions through interactions with expectant and nursing mothers.\nConclusion: Human environments including collaboration with physicians and administrators are factors influencing work continuation.
