We implemented imitation tasks and Japanese MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventories. We found that children who were significantly more able to imitate irrelevant action ranked higher on the vocabulary percentile. There was no significant correlation observed between the ability to imitate relevant action and the vocabulary percentile ranking, but there was a significant positive correlation observed between the ability to imitate irrelevant action and the vocabulary percentile ranking.
