Since painful signals are directly or indirectly transmitted to multiple cerebral cortices where regulate mental conditions such as cingulate gyrus and amygdala, painful stimulation may affect the response to stress. The aim of the present study was to clarify the influence of chronic pain on stress-coping using a forced swimming test in mice. We found that chronic inflammatory pain induced by the injection of CFA did not alter stress-coping. On the other hand, chronic neuropathic pain induced by partial sciatic nerve injury impaired passive coping in response to stress. Under these conditions, there were no changes in general behavior and motor coordination estimated by open field test and rota-rod test, respectively. Furthermore, acute neuropathic pain also did not influence stress-coping.
