A self-administered survey has been conducted to 646 nurses in five affiliated hospitals of Japanese Association of Clinical Cancer Centers. 458 nurses responded (70.9%) with 428 valid replies. Questionnaires were composed of questions that are to measure caring behavior, personal attributes, autonomy, commitment to work, self-efficacy, and self-esteem. Statistical analysis has been adopted to assess the correlation between the practice of caring behavior and other factors. It showed that caring behavior is correlated with the following factors in a descending order: autonomy (r=.602), commitment to work (r=.427), self-efficacy (r=.277), self-esteem (r=.242), and personal attributes such as years of experience in cancer care (r=.154) and background of professional education (r=.055).
