But in reality, most words of Romance origin have retracted their main stress from the word-final foot. While the diachronic leftward shift is a result of replacing the head of the prosodic word, the ongoing shift of word stress to the following syllable can not proceed without destruction of the original foot structures. Such a radical change indicates that a strong constraint on metrical structure requires primary stress be located as close as to the end of the prosodic word. This paper aims at demonstrating that the processes of stress shift are attributed to the constraint reranking within the hierarchy of constraints on metrical structure.}, pages = {1--12}, title = {英語の強勢移動と制約の検討と整理}, volume = {3}, year = {1998} }
