Method: Semi-structural interviews were conducted with six teachers who were qualified midwives, and their results were analyzed qualitatively and inductively. Result: Factors affecting career continuation were classified into following six categories: “identity based on clear motives for vocational choice,” “transition from clinical practice to education,” “reconception of bewilderment in education,” “contribution to ensuring opportunities for learning through practical training in a society with declining birth rate,” “work life balance, in particular, a balance between life events and career advancement,” and “senses of mission and fulfillment as an educator.” Discussion: Research participants’ motives for their vocational choices are clear: they moved to educational institutions with their identity as midwives as their backbone. Having been interested in education to begin with, they overcame bewilderment in education, their workload in practical training, and work-life balance issues. They have the “senses of mission and fulfillment as an educator,” which are almost equivalent to job satisfaction as an educator. Their positive career continuation led to their job retention. Conclusion: With their identity as midwives as their backbone, they overcame a variety of burdens and managed to stay in their job through positive career continuation.}, pages = {67--78}, title = {助産師の職業継続に関する研究─教育に従事する助産師の定着に影響する要因─}, volume = {27}, year = {2022}, yomi = {スズキ, ユミ and オオムラ, リンコ and タカハシ, ユミコ} }
