In recent years, new treatments for negative symptoms have been developed. The purpose of this research was to better understand the research trend associated with the relationship between the subdomain of negative symptoms and social functioning. Medical literature published from 2010-2017 was searched in MEDLINE and the Central Medical Journal. As a result, 17 studies were included. At the early onset or in the early stages of the antecedent of schizophrenia, experiential symptoms consisting of anhedonia, asocialty, and avoltion are factors that inhibit the recovery of social functioning. Findings revealed that the relationship between emotional expression and social functioning consisting of blunted affect and alogia was weak. However, emotional expression was not related to social functioning, but emotional expression indirectly affected social functioning. Social functioning was divided into two categories: daily life functioning and family functioning. Results indicated that there was a function that was strongly related to emotional expression.
